Buongiorno!
My yellow trait just couldn't stay still, so here I am sharing my little Italy trip with the loveliest people.
Italy was probably the most chilled trip I've ever had. No rushing, no strict schedules, just going wherever we wanted and stopping whenever we felt like it. For once, I actually felt like I was on holiday instead of trying to squeeze as many things as possible into one day. I always thought one week wouldn't be enough to properly rest from work, but somehow, this trip proved me wrong. Maybe it's not always about how long the holiday is, but who you're spending it with and how you spend your time.
Italy had been on my list for a while. Daniel invited me to visit a long time ago, but I wasn't quite keen to go then. When Zetty texted me about her plans, I thought, why not? Who knows when I'll get another chance to take time off work? So, within seconds, I decided to join which rarely happens to me.
It was my first time taking a bus from Victoria Coach Station to Luton Airport. Funny how I used to live nearby but always took a taxi because I didn't want to trouble anyone to send me there. Turns out, the bus was so much cheaper and convenient. Despite my history of motion sickness, I survived. First lesson of the trip: sometimes, the easier option isn't always the one we think it is.
We arrived in Milan at 6 pm and headed to our huge Airbnb. Honestly, I still don't know how Zetty always manages to find such good places for us to stay. We had a little stroll before calling it a night, as Lake Como was waiting for us the next day. And of course, my stomach was well taken care of throughout the trip. Thank you, Auntie, for the long-awaited home-cooked food.
The views were stunning in Lake Como, but my phone camera decided to give me a problem. There was this strange streak of light in every photo, making everything look less like an iPhone picture. I ended up borrowing everyone's phones to take pictures, and honestly, I couldn't deal with it. So, the next day, I bought a new phone in Milan city centre. At least I came home with a phone that could do the place justice!
Oh Venice! Paris might have been the city of love for years, but Venice has definitely taken that spot for me.
I remember watching couples having candlelit dinners, I found myself put on a smile under the moonlight. It was such a simple thing to watch, but somehow, it stayed with me. Maybe that's what life is about, too. We spend so much time working towards the next thing that we sometimes forget to enjoy what we've already worked so hard for.
We also tried non-alcoholic Aperol Spritz because almost every table seemed to have one. It looked so good, but the taste? Bitter, to be exact. At least we tried! I have attachment issue at night that I need to have someone to talk with when I go to bed, well, I kept on going back and forth to Zetty and Ame until I completely fell asleep. Glad that they able to deal with my undignosed attachment issue. Haha
Next was Dolomites. One day definitely wasn't enough. We managed to visit quite a few places in one day, and I'm glad we had a guide because there's simply too much to see. When you're surrounded by mountains like these, five hours hardly feels like enough, that we all ended up running in between stops to get on the minibus.
Well, the boat ride was one of my favourite moments. Beautiful views, good company, and absolutely no need to rush anywhere. Sometimes, you don't need to do much to be happy. You just need to be present enough to enjoy where you are and who you're with.
A little thought before I go 🤍
This trip gave me a whole week to slow down and think about what the hell I'm actually doing with my life besides work.
Don't get me wrong, I know I have a purpose, and I know what I'm working towards. But sometimes, when you're so focused on getting somewhere, you forget that life is happening while you're busy trying to figure everything out.
I'm still trying to find my way in this different home of mine, and some days, it's not easy doing it all on your own. There are things I want for myself, things I'm working towards, and things I can only hope will fall into place with time.
Maybe I don't need to talk about everything before it happens. Maybe I just need to keep going, do what I can, and let things unfold when they're ready because I'm a strong believer of
Don't announce it, Prove it!
Grazie, Italia, for the beautiful views, the great company, the laughter, and a little reminder that there's more to life than work. So, I decided to go see my family........
